We were warned about patches of brown water (phytoplankton bloom) in Santa Monica bay, but headed out for a dive on assurances that there was good vis to be found.
From the dock through Redondo Beach - milk chocolate-brown water. Using our drop camera to check the vis at depth, we encountered green water ( with poor vis) further south along Palos Verdes. We finally found blue-greenish water near Point Vicente and a surprising 35+ feet vis in 52 degrees.
A few miles away we finally got out of the bloom and made a dive with great vis.
